Tenants & plans
How tenant types (personal, premium, family, team, business, enterprise) map to plans, what a tenant owns, and how plans gate features and limits.
Every PulsVault account lives inside a tenant — the ownership context that holds your vaults, members, and settings. Your subscription plan decides which tenant type you get and which features and limits apply inside it. This page explains the model; for the full feature matrix see Plan comparison & limits.
Tenant types#
| Tenant | Plan | Who it's for |
|---|---|---|
| Personal | Free | One person getting started — 1 vault, core item types |
| Premium | Premium (flat rate) | One person — unlimited vaults, sharing, Travel Mode, breach monitoring |
| Family | Family (flat rate) | Up to 6 members with shared vaults and family administration |
| Team | Team (per user) | Small teams of 2 to 10 seats with organization roles and policies |
| Business | Business (per user) | Growing organizations of 3 to 500 seats — adds advanced audit and controls |
| Enterprise | Enterprise (custom) | Large organizations from 25 seats with no seat cap and custom quotas — currently shown as Coming soon, so it can't be bought yet |
A Solo Professional plan also exists: a single-seat personal tier with everything in Premium plus 20 GB of storage, projects, task management and the calendar, and DevOps secrets. In these docs it behaves like the Premium tenant unless a page says otherwise.
What a tenant owns#
- Members and seats — the people in the tenant. Personal tiers have one seat; Family, Team, Business, and Enterprise manage members via seat management.
- Vaults and items — every vault created by members belongs to the tenant's quota. Each member always has a personal primary vault that is never shareable.
- Roles and policies — Family tenants get family administration; Team and above get organization roles & permissions and policies that can tighten limits below the plan ceilings.
- Billing and usage — one subscription per tenant, managed in Plans & subscription, with consumption tracked in Usage & limits.
- Audit scope — activity and audit logs are collected per tenant; retention and export depth grow with the plan.
How plans gate features#
Plan gating works through three mechanisms, evaluated server-side:
- Feature gates — on/off capabilities unlocked at a minimum tier. Examples: vault sharing, re-sharing, Travel Mode, and breach-monitoring alerts start at Premium; member sharing in a family at Family; custom roles and advanced encryption algorithms (ChaCha20 family) at Team; audit hash-chain verification at Business.
- Plan limits — numeric ceilings such as active shares, secure links, trusted devices, and audit retention days. See the tables in Plan comparison & limits.
- Subscription quotas — contract numbers carried on the subscription itself: seats, vaults, items per vault, and storage. Enterprise contracts can override these per agreement.
| Quota | Free | Premium | Solo Pro | Family | Team | Business | Enterprise |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vaults | 1 | ∞ | ∞ | ∞ | ∞ | ∞ | ∞ |
| Items per vault | 1 000 | ∞ | ∞ | ∞ | ∞ | ∞ | ∞ |
| Seats | 1 | 1 | 1 | up to 6 | 2–10 | 3–500 | from 25, no cap |
| Storage | 512 MB | 5 GB | 20 GB | 5 GB for the whole family | 10 GB per seat | 25 GB per seat | Unlimited |
Storage is entitled per seat, and the pool is the per-seat amount times the seats you pay for — so a Team organization with 5 paid seats has 50 GB. Family is flat-rate, so its 5 GB is one pool for the household.
Paid plans (except Enterprise, which is quoted by sales) include a 14-day trial, so you can evaluate a tier before committing.
Tenant badges in these docs#
Documentation pages carry tenant chips — like Team — showing which plans a feature applies to. A page without chips applies to all tenants.
