Quickstart: your first vault & item
Create a vault, unlock it, add your first login item with a generated password, and copy a secret safely — in about five minutes.
This quickstart assumes you've created your account. Let's store your first secret.
1. Unlock your session#
After signing in, you'll be asked to unlock with your Access Key (or a trusted device). Unlocking loads your keys into memory for the session — this is the second of the two gates.
2. Create a vault#
- Go to Vaults and choose New vault.
- Give it a name (e.g. "Personal") and an optional description.
- Leave the encryption type at the default AES-256-GCM unless your organization requires otherwise.
- Save. Your new vault appears in the list, unlocked and ready.
Your primary vault
Every account already has a primary vault that is always AES-256-GCM and never shareable. It's the safest place for your most sensitive items.
3. Add a login item#
- Open the vault and choose New item → Login.
- Enter a title, the site URL, and your username.
- For the password, click Generate to create a strong one with the password generator.
- Optionally add a one-time-password (TOTP) seed, notes, or file attachments.
- Save. The sensitive fields are encrypted on your device before anything is sent.
4. Use your secret#
- Click the reveal (eye) icon to view a hidden field.
- Click copy to put a password on your clipboard — it auto-clears after a short delay.
- Open the item any time to edit; PulsVault keeps an item history.
Install the browser extension
With the extension, PulsVault can autofill logins so you rarely need to copy and paste. See Install apps & extension.
