Password generator

Generate strong passwords and passphrases, tune character sets and length, generate usernames, and set defaults for new items.

PulsVault includes a configurable generator for strong passwords, passphrases, and usernames. It appears wherever you enter a password and as a standalone tool.

Generate a password#

  1. On any password field, click Generate.
  2. Adjust the length and toggle character sets: uppercase, lowercase, numbers, symbols.
  3. Optionally exclude ambiguous characters (like l, 1, O, 0).
  4. Click Use to insert it, or regenerate until you're happy.

Passwords vs. passphrases#

  • Random password — maximum entropy for a given length; best when a site allows long, complex strings.
  • Passphrase — several random words joined by a separator; easier to type or read aloud when you must.

Username generator#

Generate usernames too — random strings or email-style handles — handy when a service doesn't need your real address.

Set your defaults#

Set preferred length and character sets once under Generator settings so every new item starts from your standard.

Strength, not just length

The strength meter estimates entropy. Aim for "strong" — long random strings or 4+ word passphrases. Avoid reusing passwords across sites; the My security flags reuse and weak entries.

Generated on your device

Passwords are generated locally using a cryptographically secure random source and are never sent anywhere until you save the item (encrypted).
