Folders & favorites
Organize items with nested folders inside a vault, pin folders to the sidebar, and star the vaults you want listed there.
Two tools keep a growing collection manageable: folders organize the items inside a vault, and favorites decide which vaults your sidebar lists.
Folders#
Each vault has its own folder tree in the sidebar. Folders can be nested to any depth, and All Secrets at the top always shows every item regardless of folder.
Create a folder#
- Open a vault and find the folder tree in the sidebar.
- Click New Folder, type a name, and press Enter.
- For a subfolder, right-click (or use the ⋯ menu on) an existing folder and choose Subfolder.
Manage folders#
Right-click a folder (or use its ⋯ menu) for:
- Rename — edit the name inline and press Enter.
- Subfolder — create a nested folder underneath.
- Pin to sidebar — adds the folder to the Pinned folders section at the top of the sidebar, so you reach it without expanding its vault first. The same menu offers Unpin from sidebar once it's pinned.
- Delete — removes the folder only; its subfolders move up to the parent level, and items are not deleted.
Pinned folders are per account, not per device — they follow you to a new browser. Reorder them by dragging, or with Alt+↑ / Alt+↓ while a pinned row has focus. You can pin up to 20 folders.
Clicking a folder filters the item list to that folder. New items are created in the folder you're currently viewing, so navigate first, then choose New item.
Like item data, folder organization lives inside your encrypted vault — organizing items never exposes their contents to the server.
Favorite vaults#
Starring a vault is how you put it in your sidebar. Star the ones you work in; leave the rest on the Vaults page, where they stay one click away without crowding the rail.
There are three places to star a vault, and they all write the same flag:
- The star on a vault row in the sidebar — click it again to remove the vault from the rail.
- The star on any vault card on the Vaults page (Add to Favorites / Remove from Favorites).
- The Favorite Vault toggle in a vault's Settings → General.
On the Personal, Premium and Family plans, the sidebar's Vaults section lists exactly your starred vaults, plus your Personal vault — which is always listed, whether or not it's starred, because it's the one vault you can't delete. Starred vaults are ordered by name under it; if you want an order you control, pin folders instead.
A new vault is not added to the sidebar. Star it when you want it there.
It isn't starred. Open Manage vaults from the icon in the sidebar's Vaults header — every vault you own is listed there, starred or not.
On the Vaults page, switch to the Favorites tab to see only starred vaults; the tab you pick is remembered on this device. The page also has All, Shared, and Archived tabs, plus sorting by last accessed, name, creation date, or item count — see Search.
Notes have notebooks#
The per-vault Notes workspace uses its own folder system (Notebooks), also nestable, separate from item folders.
