Item history

View, reveal, and restore previous versions of an item's sensitive fields from the History tab.

Whenever you change a sensitive field — a password, PIN, key, or other masked value — the previous value is kept as an encrypted version in the item's history. Use it to recover from an accidental change or when a service asks for an old password.

View an item's history#

  1. Open the item and switch to the History tab (also available as the Field History drawer).
  2. Entries are grouped by field, each showing a version number (v1, v2…) and the date and time it was replaced.
  3. Values are masked by default — the vault must be unlocked to work with them.

Actions on a version#

Action What it does
Reveal / Hide Decrypts the old value on your device and shows it
Copy Copies the decrypted value to the clipboard
Restore this version Puts the old value back into the edit form
Restore doesn't auto-save

Restoring pre-fills the field and switches the item into edit mode — you'll see "Value Restored — Please save the item to keep this change." Nothing changes until you save.

What's kept, and for how long#

History entries are encrypted with the vault's key on your device, exactly like current values — the server never sees old passwords in plaintext. Two settings control retention, configured in App Settings → Password History (see Password history):

  • Maximum history entries per field — how many previous values one field keeps.
  • Retention period — how long any of them are kept; older entries are cleared automatically.

Both are capped by your plan — from 5 entries and 30 days on Free up to 50 entries and 730 days on Enterprise. See Password history for the full table.

Team Business Enterprise Organization policy can enforce a minimum number of retained versions.

Clear history#

Vault owners see a Clear All History button in the history view. Confirming Clear Field History permanently deletes every stored version for that item — this cannot be undone.
