Vault general settings

Set how long a vault stays unlocked, which vault receives new items by default, and whether copied passwords are cleared from your clipboard — plus what the Workspace page shows.

Vault General Settings holds three everyday preferences that apply to every vault you open: how long a vault stays unlocked, where new items go when you do not choose a vault, and whether copied secrets are wiped from your clipboard. Open it from App settings → General Settings (under Vault Configuration).

Change what you need and select Save Settings. The page confirms with Settings Saved.

Vault Session Length#

Vault Session Length is how long a vault stays unlocked. The choices are:

Option
5 minutes
15 minutes (the default)
30 minutes
1 hour
4 hours
8 hours
Until logout

The clock counts from the moment you unlock the vault — not from your last action. Working continuously does not extend it. When it runs out, the vault asks for your Access Key again.

Your keys live only in this browser tab's memory, so reloading the page locks the vault too, whatever the session length. Unlocking again takes your Access Key together with your password — or an approval from your trusted phone. Locking in one tab locks your other open tabs as well. See the two-gate model for how unlocking relates to signing in.

Shorter is safer

A vault that locks itself protects you when you walk away from a shared or borrowed computer. Pick the shortest session you can work with.

Default Vault for New Items#

Default Vault for New Items decides where secrets land when you create one without choosing a vault: they are saved in the chosen vault, at its root. Only one vault can be the default.

  • The list starts with None — fall back to my Personal Vault. Choosing it means new items go to your Personal Vault.
  • Only vaults you own and that are not archived can be the default. Your Personal Vault is not in the list (it is what "None" already means). If you have no other vault yet, the page says "You have no vault that can be a default yet" — create another vault first.
  • Changing the default writes to a vault, so your vault must be unlocked. If it is not, saving tells you to unlock your vault to change the default vault.

A vault that is the default carries a Default badge in its own settings.

Clear Clipboard Automatically#

Switch on Clear Clipboard Automatically to have copied passwords and other sensitive data removed from your clipboard after a delay. When it is on, Clear Clipboard After appears:

Option
10 seconds
30 seconds (the default)
60 seconds
2 minutes

Pick a delay long enough to switch windows and paste, and short enough that the secret does not sit on your clipboard.

The Workspace page#

A vault can be pinned as your Workspace with the Active workspace switch in that vault's settings (only one vault at a time; an archived vault cannot be your Workspace). The Workspace page (/console/workspace) then opens it. It is separate from the default vault above: the default decides where new items go, the Workspace is a shortcut to a vault.

If the pinned vault is locked, the page shows Vault Locked — "Your Workspace is name, but you need to unlock your vault to access it" — with an Unlock Vault button. If no vault is pinned it shows No Workspace Set, explains how to pin one, and offers Choose a Workspace, which takes you to your vaults.
