Payment methods

See every card on your subscription, which one is the default, and add, remove or change cards, and choose which one is charged, without leaving PulsVault.

PulsVault uses Stripe for all payments. Your card is stored and processed by Stripe — PulsVault never sees or stores your full card number. The Payment Methods page shows the default card attached to your subscription and lets you add, remove and choose the default card right there.

View your cards on file#

Go to Billing → Payment Methods. The page lists every card attached to your subscription. For each one you see:

  • The card brand and its last 4 digits (shown as "•••• 4242")
  • The expiry date ("Expires" with month/year)
  • A Default badge on the card that is charged for your subscription

When you have more than one card, the header shows how many (for example "2 on file") and a note reminds you that the Default card is the one charged.

If you have no billing account yet — for example on the Free plan, or on a trial where you have not added a card — the page shows No payment method on file. Cards are collected securely at checkout, so the page says Start a subscription to add one and offers the plan button (Choose a plan, or Subscribe now during a trial).

Add a card#

  1. Go to Billing → Payment Methods and choose Add payment method.
  2. A panel opens with Stripe's secure card form. Enter the card and choose Save card. Nothing is charged.
  3. If your bank wants to confirm the card, that check appears in the same panel.
  4. The panel confirms the card is saved. If it is not already the default, Set as default makes it the card Stripe charges.

A new card is only saved; your subscription keeps charging the card it used before until you make the new one the default.

Change the default card#

Choose Set as default on any other card in the list. New charges use it from then on.

Remove a card#

Choose Remove on a card and confirm. Removing a card is irreversible — add it again to use it.

  • Removing the default card hands the default to another saved card automatically.
  • You cannot remove the last usable card while the subscription is active: add another card first.
  • Remove is offered only to the person who pays — the account owner on a personal or family plan, and the organization owner on an organization plan. A billing delegate in an organization can add a card and change the default, but not remove one.
Card data never touches PulsVault

All card entry happens in Stripe's PCI-compliant form. PulsVault only receives a reference to the payment method (brand, last 4 digits, expiry) for display. PulsVault staff will never ask for your full card number.

When a payment fails#

If a renewal charge fails, your subscription enters a grace period (7 days by default) with status PAST_DUE instead of being cancelled immediately:

  • Add or choose a working card here, or choose Pay now on the open invoice under Invoices — once Stripe collects the open invoice, your subscription returns to ACTIVE automatically.
  • If the invoice is still unpaid when the grace period ends, the subscription lapses: the account goes read-only for 14 days, then locks. It does not fall back to Free, and your data is kept — see How plan changes work.

Payment failures and recoveries are recorded in your account's audit trail. See Activity & audit log.
