Your plan
What you see under Billing when someone else pays for your plan — a family member's seat or an organization seat — including what each state means when the plan lapses and what you can do about it.
Family Team Business Enterprise
If you belong to a family or an organization, somebody else pays for your seat. So the Billing section does not show you cards, invoices or renewals — those are not yours, and showing them would only invite you to ask why you cannot open them. Instead it shows Your plan: which plan covers you, who pays for it, and what to do if that plan stops.
Who sees this page#
| You are | Billing shows you |
|---|---|
| A member of someone else's family | Your plan and Usage & Limits |
| A member of an organization without billing access | Your plan and Usage & Limits |
| The family organizer, or an organization member who can manage or read billing | The full billing section — see Plans & subscription |
If you can manage your organization's billing and open Your plan anyway (from an old link), the page says You can manage this organization's billing and links to Open billing.
As a family member#
While the family plan is active, Your plan says you are on a family plan someone else pays for and there is nothing to manage. It shows:
- Family plan with an Active badge, the family's name, Paid for by (the organizer's email) and People on the plan ("3 of 6").
- What you get — your vaults, items per vault, storage and people-on-the-plan limits. Your actual consumption is in Usage & Limits.
- Payment is handled by whoever organizes your family — to change the plan or cancel it, ask the organizer. If you want your own plan instead, you first have to leave the family; the page links to My family, where that is done.
When the organizer's plan has ended#
Nothing is wrong with your seat, but it is not paid for right now. The page tells you which state you are in:
| State | What it means | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| Your vault is read-only | The organizer's plan has ended. You can read and export everything, but not save changes. | Ask … to renew (opens an email to the organizer) or Export my data |
| Your vault is locked | The read-only window has closed. Nothing is deleted; everything returns the moment a plan covers it again. | Ask … to renew |
Underneath, Don't want to wait? points out that you can leave the family and set up a plan of your own — your vaults come with you, and nothing is deleted either way.
When your seat has ended#
If you left the family, or it was dissolved, the page reads Your account is read-only (or Your account is locked). Your account lands on Premium terms, so nothing you created is over a limit, and Premium, Solo Professional and Family are all open to you. Select Choose a plan to open Billing → Subscription. The usual 14 days read-only, then locked timeline applies.
As an organization member#
While the plan is active the page says Your organization pays for this plan, so there's nothing to manage here. You see:
- The organization's name with the plan's name beside it, Paid for by and People on the plan.
- Invoices, payment methods and plan changes — a note that these belong to whoever pays, with the billing contact (or "an administrator with billing access") to ask.
- Your own consumption lives in Usage & Limits.
- The security row your administrators see about your account, so you know exactly what they see.
When the organization's plan has lapsed#
Your access follows the plan your organization pays for, so when it ends every member goes read-only, and later locked. You have done nothing wrong and there is nothing on your own account to renew. The page shows one of two states:
| State | What it means |
|---|---|
| Your vault is read-only | The plan has ended. You can read and export everything but not save changes, until the read-only window closes. Export my data is offered while it lasts. |
| Your vault is locked | The plan was not renewed and the window has closed. Nothing has been deleted — every vault and item is where it was, and access returns as soon as a plan covers your organization again. |
Under Who can fix this, the page names the organization's published billing contact — or tells you to ask an administrator with billing access. Renewing the plan restores everyone at once.
If the organization is suspended instead, the page says so ("Your organization has been suspended") and explains it is an administrative hold, not a problem with your account or with anyone's payment. Lifting the suspension restores everyone at once.
A personal plan covers your own account — it would not restore the vaults, teams and projects your organization shares with you, and an employee cannot leave their company from a billing page. So the page deliberately points you at the person who can fix the real problem instead.
When your seat has ended#
If you no longer hold a seat in the organization, the page shows Your seat has ended. Your own account and everything in your personal vaults are untouched; select Choose a plan to keep making changes to them, or Export my data to take a copy.
