Members & invites

How the family organizer invites people, resends or revokes invitations, removes members, and what a person sees when they join a family from an invitation.

Members & Invites is where the family organizer sees everyone on the plan — email, role and status — and invites new people. A family plan includes up to 6 members under one flat subscription, and the page header always tells you where you stand: "3 of 6 seats used · 3 available".

Open it from Family settings → Members & Invites.

Roles#

The Role column shows one of three labels:

Role Who
Organizer The person who pays for and runs the family. Invites and removes members, chooses the shared vaults, and sets the family password rules.
Admin A member who holds the family-admin role.
Member Everyone else: their own account and vaults, plus any shared vaults they have been given.

Only the organizer sees the Actions column and the Invite member button; other people see the list and the note "Only the family organizer can invite or remove members."

Every member — whatever the label — gets a full PulsVault account: their own primary vault, their own Access Key, and their own Emergency Kit.

Invite a member#

  1. Open Family settings → Members & Invites.
  2. Select Invite member. The Invite a family member dialog asks for an Email address.
  3. Select Send invitation. We email an invitation link, and the person appears in the list with a Pending status.
  4. The invitee follows the link, signs in or creates their own account, and becomes Active once they have joined — see Joining a family.

If every seat is taken, Invite member is disabled and a notice says "Your family is full (6 seats). Remove a member or revoke a pending invite to free a seat." A pending invitation holds a seat until it is accepted, revoked or expires.

Invitations don't share anything by themselves

Joining the family gives someone a seat and applies your family's password rules. To give them access to passwords, grant them a shared vault — see Shared family vault.

Manage existing members#

The actions on each row depend on its status.

Action Where What it does
Resend Pending invitations Sends the email again. The row counts down the re-sends you have left ("2 left"), and shows Limit reached when none remain — then revoke the invitation and invite the person again.
Revoke Pending invitations Cancels the invitation and frees the seat. A confirmation, Remove from family?, asks you to confirm with Revoke invite.
Remove Active members Removes the person from the family and frees their seat. The same Remove from family? confirmation asks you to confirm with Remove member.

The organizer's own row shows a dash — the organizer cannot be removed.

The member drawer#

Select any row to open that person's details in a side panel:

  • Seat — when they were invited and when they joined. For a pending invitation: when it expires and how many re-sends are left. For an active member: their last activity, shown to the day. What they do inside their own vaults stays private and is never recorded for you to read.
  • Vaults you've shared — every vault you have shared with them, its access level, since when, and a Revoke button per vault. Revoking rotates the vault key, so any copy they already hold stops working. If a vault is owed a key rotation, the row says "Key rotation owed since …" — Shared family vault explains why.

When someone leaves the family#

  • They lose access to the family's shared vaults and the family subscription.
  • Their personal account and private vaults remain theirs — the organizer never held those keys, so nothing private ever passes through the family.
  • Their account moves to Premium terms for the next 14 days, during which it is read-only: everything can be opened and exported, but nothing added or changed. Premium carries the same allowances the family seat did, so no vault they created goes over a limit. Choosing a plan in that window keeps full access; letting it pass locks the account until they subscribe. Nothing is ever deleted.
  • A new invitation starts a new seat — it does not restore the old one.
Rotate what they could see

Removing a member doesn't rewind time. If a departing member had access to shared vaults, change the passwords stored in them — see Password health for finding reused or aging credentials.

When the family's plan has ended#

If the organizer's plan lapses, a banner at the top of the page says so. While it is read-only, members can read and export but not save changes, and you cannot invite or manage members until the plan is renewed; the banner counts how many members are affected. Once it is locked, everyone in the household is locked out along with you. Nothing is deleted, and renewing restores everyone at once. See How plan changes work.

Joining a family#

This is what the person you invite goes through. The link in the email opens a short guided page, with a three-step progress indicator, before anything is changed on their account.

  1. The invitation is checked. A link that is invalid, expired or already used shows This invitation isn't usable and tells them to ask the organizer for a new one.
  2. Who are you? The page says who invited them and to which family, and shows the address the invitation is for. They either Create my account — their keys are generated on their own device and never leave it — or choose I already have an account and sign in. Either way they come straight back to the invitation, which is held for 30 minutes.
  3. Wrong account? If they are signed in as a different address, the page says Wrong account, names both addresses, and offers a button to sign in as the invited address.
  4. Confirm. The page, Join followed by the family's name, spells out what joining means: their seat is paid for by the organizer and their plan becomes Family; they can open vaults the organizer chooses to share; and their own vaults stay theirs. The organizer can see their seat and what has been shared with them — never what is inside their personal vaults, and never what they do in them. They choose Join the family, or No thanks, decline this invitation, after which the seat is free again and the organizer is told.
  5. One thing first. If the person already has a plan that conflicts — for example a plan of their own that has to be cancelled before they can take a family seat — the page, One thing first, explains the conflict. Manage my plan takes them to billing, Try again repeats the join once it is sorted, and Decline this invitation is always available as the way out.
  6. Welcome. Welcome to followed by the family's name confirms they are in. Shared vaults appear once the organizer's device wraps the keys for them, which happens the next time the organizer unlocks — so a vault you share may take until then to show up.

After joining, the new member manages their membership from My family.

Limits#

  • A family plan holds up to 6 members, including the organizer.
  • If the family is full, remove a member or revoke an invitation before inviting another, or look at Plans & subscription for options with more seats.
